As part of our Corporate Social responsibility programme, Unos and TeleVAS in conjunction with Kelab my-kart Selangor are embarking on a fund raising campaign to support Yellow House Society, a project developed by the Malaysian Friends of UNICEF, in encouraging children that suffer from dyslexia (i.e. difficulty in reading) by collaborating with Dyslexia Association in promoting the “Joy of Learning and Literacy amongst the Poor and Orphans”.

Yellow House, a registered non-profit organization, focuses on promoting equal opportunity for children from diverse backgrounds, cultures and capacities, particularly children from poor communities, orphanages and those with special needs.

As 5% of the children Yellow House works with suffer from dyslexia, Yellow House collaborates with Dyslexia Association in the sharing of resources and premises, and sending the children through a special program to learn to read and write. Currently, the Dyslexia Association only takes in children who can afford to pay (i.e. RM1,500/child), which thus cannot cover these 5%. Dyslexia Association is however training Yellow House workers to access the children for dyslexia as they reach out to the communities, and arranging for a reduced fee for the poor and orphans that they bring in.

As such, on 24th July 2008 we will be holding a 45 minute team based endurance race to raise funds and also to provide the children the exposure to motorsports at grassroots level. After the endurance race the children will be given the opportunity to participate amongst themselves too! The winning team in the endurance race will receive a cash prize which will then be donated to the Children at Risk and in addition Unos will donate 50% of all Unos top-ups on that day.

With the support from everyone involved, we managed to raise a significant amount in cash and kind for the children. But most of all, we managed to spend time with the children even as they explored their potential in sport.
