UK Teacher Training Program

Project:

Teacher Training Agency, UK

Project description:

ICT is more than just another teaching tool. Its potential for improving the quality of pupils' learning and standards that they achieve can be significant.
In 1998, the UK Government initiated a £230 million New Opportunities Fund (NOF) for the training of teachers in the application of ICT in teaching. Project started in 1999 and was completed in 2003. More than 380,000 teachers received training under this scheme. The FSBM consortium was one of the accredited training providers.

The aim of the programme is to equip teachers with the confidence and competence necessary to make effective pedagogical use of ICT in the classroom. Through this training, teachers will develop the necessary knowledge, understanding and skills to make appropriate decisions about WHEN, WHEN NOT and HOW to use ICT effectively in meeting their teaching objectives and to support their continuing professional development. Ultimately, this will help improve the standards of pupils' achievement.

FSBM, together with its partners in UK, designed and produced an integrated programme and a multimedia courseware for this training. The multimedia courseware was available on CD-ROM and from the Internet. Teachers that choose to learn online from the Internet will be guided and managed by a Learning Management System.

Technology employed:

Lotus Domino was used to develop the Learning Content & Management System.
